Depths of Betrayal is an adventure hidden object game. The story is about a researcher who receives a letter from a friend of his, asking him to come and help him with an experiment. He is surprised because he hasn't spoken with his friend quite a long time, and the only thing he knows, is that the experiment is about the creation of artificial intelligence. As he arrives at the train station, the train is attacked by something that looks like a robot, and so the adventure begins.
The game has a pretty good story, which by itself is a good reason to play the game. The gameplay is similar to all hidden object games. To advance through many areas, you need to find objects that are hidden in the landscape. Unlike other games where you need to find a large number of objects at once to advance, Depths of Betrayal has a different system. To unlock different things you need to find a relatively small amount of objects. For example to open a gate you need just 5 items, or to open a small box you need to find 3 keys. This system means that you'll advance at a steadier pace than in other games. And also that you will spend a lot of time between areas, because when you discover something new the objects can easily be in an area you've already passed through.
The game has two difficulty settings: casual and advanced. The difference between them is that in the advanced mode, many of the hints won't be shown at all, and you won't be able to skip any puzzles. In the casual mode, however, the hint button replenishes itself much faster and you can skip puzzles which seem too difficult. Basically the casual mode is made for relaxing and enjoying the story, and the advanced mode is for a challenge.
The graphics look a lot better than in other games of the same type. There are a lot of very nice cinematics throughout the game, which are a visual delight. Also the other characters that you'll meet in the game are highly detailed, which makes the game look more like a movie. Also the in-game dialogues are very well designed. You can choose which questions to ask (this gives a greater sensation of presence in the game).
Overall, Depths of Betrayal is a very well designed game, with an intriguing story. Anyone who is a fan of hidden object games, or who just likes a mysterious story with a lot of puzzles should try this game.
